She Writes Press has just extended the deadline for the She Writes Press Toward Equality in Publishing (STEP) Scholarship (which will award one female writer of color a full She Write Press publishing package plus 500-book print run) to July 1, 2018. Writers can apply by submitting a query letter and at least two full chapters of their work. A panel of judges will review each applicant, the top five applicants will receive a written assessment of their work, and the winner will receive a SWP publishing package plus 500-book print run.

She Writes Press launched the STEP Scholarship earlier this year to address the lack of diversity in the publishing landscape. The mission behind the STEP program is to recognize and publish those voices that are not otherwise being heard due to a variety of constraints that exist, be they cultural, social, or financial.
