MY INDIANAPOLIS MUG
Over time my desk has slowly collected more and more special knick-knacks. However, one essential item I’ve had since the beginning is my Indianapolis coffee mug. Not only is it important to have a coffee drinking device around at all times, but this particular mug reminds me of home. I recently moved from Indiana to Phoenix in June. Whenever the going gets tough or I feel a little homesick, I look at my mug and remember where I came from. I also like showing off my Hoosier hometown pride!
THE GREEN COUCH
People often ask me why I have a green couch on my desk. There are several reasons for this. First, it’s a great conversation starter (as clearly shown from the first sentence). Second, I appreciate the irony that people normally sit on a couch while reading a book, but in this instance the couch is small enough to sit on the books. Lastly, my grandpa made the couch as a toy long ago, so it holds a special place in my heart.
JOHN STEINBECK
My favorite literary author… if only I could have done publicity for him! All jokes aside, I keep my John Steinbeck poster at my desk because it reminds me of my passion for reading and writing. An English teacher in high school let me “steal” her poster of John Steinbeck from her classroom because she knew how much I loved him. I’ve kept him in my workspace ever since!

One HUGE essential desk item is this specific type of pen. I don’t know why, but I truly get so much satisfaction from a dark, smooth writing pen. They make writing my to-do lists a little more exciting.
LOUIE, LOUIE
Helloooo cuteness! My last must-have desk item is my adorable dog Louie as my desktop screen. Since I spend so much time looking at my computer it helps having my four-legged best friend looking back at me. It’s also a nice reminder that no matter what kind of day I have, a ball of sheer happiness will always greet me when I get home. I mean, look at those eyes…you can’t tell me they don’t melt your heart!
