Our Sparks are some of the most talented people you will ever meet and we love to brag about them. That’s why we’ll be sharing a few fun facts about them in our new series, Spark Spotlight. This week, meet our editorial manager, Lauren!
What is your favorite book of all time and why? It would have to be a tie between the two books that were the OG influencers in my life as a reader and writer. The first is Girl of the Limberlost by Gene Stratton-Porter, given to me by my grandmother when I was a little girl. This book will forever stand out in my mind with its vivid descriptions—plus the author was one of the first-ever women to form a movie studio and production company. The second would be The Stand by Stephen King. My older brother was so enthralled with Stephen King’s work, and when I read The Stand, I was awestruck at the character and plot development. King was always so ahead of his time with his writing.
What are you currently watching on Netflix? A never-ending “Supernatural” binge.
What is your favorite trip you’ve ever taken? As a major travel enthusiast, this is an impossible question!
What did you want to be when you grew up? A writer and a maker of books! So I got pretty lucky!
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Bring the joy, don’t wait for it. Honor the struggle, don’t hate it. Take every chance to spread generosity, love, and kindness; you may be the only spark of positivity someone encounters on a given day.
What’s a fun fact that people would be surprised to know about you? I oil paint and have sold my work on Etsy, and I’ve worked as a newscaster on Heavy Metal Television.
